Gifts with Maker Stories

Human beings have been telling stories as long as there’s been a language to tell them in. We think in stories, remember in stories, and turn just about everything we experience into a story.
Stories are the medium by which we connect with each other most naturally. This is why each gift box from The White Mulberry includes not only amazing products but also authentic stories about the makers’ inspiration and journey in crafting each individual product by hand.

Cocotutti Chocolates

Elyce Zahn

Since 2010, CocoTutti has been producing delicious, colorful individual chocolates. Elyce (The Chocolatier / Owner) started with classic recipes, then updated them, and created the majority of our fine, divine chocolates from scratch. Many of our recipes start with our housemade jams and marmalades – which start with organic fruit from our local farmers’ market. Our nut filled items start with our housemade peanut or hazelnut butter. And our tea infusions utilize processes that we’ve created – maximizing the tea flavor, while preventing bitterness.

My personal interest in cooking started waaaay back. My earliest memories are of crawling around the kitchen floor while my Mom cooked in our home. As I grew up, I helped make the family meals as well as trying out new recipes. Later, I put myself through college by working – and several of those jobs included cooking. Once out of college, and on my own, I’d invite friends over for meals – the longest one was a lunch that took 10 hours! Every course was paired with wine, and served about an hour or so after the last one. Yes, definitely into food.So back in 2004, my husband and I were on a weekend getaway up to Tahoe when we passed through Sacramento at the time of the State Fair. We stopped in and wandered around and, naturally, ended up at the cooking contests. Colorful jars of jam stood in lit cases with cards noting their awards. Pickles and cookies and cakes in other cases. A judging was going on, so we sat and watched. I decided to enter a future competition and I did. I won several contests. I became hooked and entered the following years, each time creating more chocolates, cakes, cookies, and jams, and taking home more and more ribbons. Speed up to 2010, and I had entered several items in three categories and won Best of Show in two of those categories. My husband and my best friend both told me that I was always happier in the kitchen than at work, and why not try selling something … maybe chocolate?A short time later I took a table at a pop-up market and sold 10 or 15 boxes of caramels including one from a recipe that I had developed. I was thrilled! From there, I started selling chocolates and caramels at other events, wineries, and chocolate shows up and down the West Coast – all the time developing new recipes and techniques. In 2012, I started to transition from my day job to my passion (CocoTutti). Now I have fun at my “job” all year ‘round. In summer I made the jams and marmalades that I use in our products. Starting in September through Mother’s Day, I and my part-time assistants make chocolates and caramels and truffles.

Scented Designs

Kate De Palma

Scented Designs was born in 2016 after I'd been making candles as a hobby for a few years. I could only burn so many candles myself (especially since these last so long!), and my friends and family were in the same boat.

Roxanne's Biscotti

Roxanne Vinciguerra

Roxanne has been making her biscotti for friends and family for over 30 years and a few years ago started Roxanne’s Biscotti so now everyone can enjoy them. Our biscotti are hand crafted using only the freshest ingredients available, no preservatives are added. They have the perfect texture and taste just right for dunking into coffee, tea or milk and even wine — yes, a glass of wine makes an awesome pairing. Biscotti isn’t just for breakfast anymore! We’ve recently added Cranberry-Almond Granola made with thick cut oats adding a nice crunch and lightly sweetened with pure maple syrup – bliss in a bowl. Have it atop your yogurt, add it to your hot cereal (as many of our customer have recommended) or simply enjoy it as a snack.

To truly know Roxanne, is to taste her cooking. The consistent ingredient Roxanne uses lavishly in everything she makes is her love of people and her thrill to delight them by carefully preparing fabulous food.

Her recipe for biscotti was perfected years ago when she wanted to surprise her grandmother by baking a biscotti she would love. Roxanne continues to bake her perfect biscotti fresh every week in her kitchen in Morgan Hill. All ingredients are sourced locally and her dedication to quality and craft is unmatched.

Roxanne is indeed an exceptional artisan. But more than being a skilled baker her greater craft is loving people through food. Enjoy!

In Ayurveda, teas are the traditional method of delivering the medicinal effects of herbs and spices to our body’s tissues. For those who are not familiar with Ayurveda - known as the “Science of Life”, it is a natural holistic healing system that was developed in India more than 5,000 years ago, addressing all layers of the mind, body, and soul.According to Ayurveda, disease first shows up on the body within the digestive tract, accumulates there and if continues to accumulate, moves into the deeper tissues. Strong digestion is a key for an overall good health. In Ayurveda, health is defined as the dynamic state of balance between mind, body, and the environment; it is possible for each of us to achieve and maintain a vibrant and joyful state of health by identifying our mind–body type and then creating a lifestyle that sustains and nurtures our unique nature.

Beverly's English Toffee

Jennifer Keenan

Beverly's English Toffee is located in Pleasanton, California. We have always had a long-standing following of customers. Beverly Aarts, an established caterer and cook in the Palo Alto area, began making English toffee as holiday gifts for her friends over 35 years ago. As she received requests to buy the candy, it turned into a successful holiday business. The business has slowly evolved and finally, we can bring it to you over the internet! However, we are always available for phone and faxed orders.

We are sad to announce that Beverly passed in July 2019. Jennifer Aarts Keenan, Beverly's daughter, continues the family business and toffee tradition!
