2020 Raksha Bandhan is August 3. An Indian cultural tradition, it honors the sacred bond between a brother and sister. Originally a North Indian tradition, it is now celebrated all over the country. Customarily, a sister applies a ‘roli tika’ on her brother’s forehead and ties a colorful thread also known as ‘rakhi’ on his right wrist. In return, their brother gives her a gift and an unspoken commitment to her well-being. Traditionally, the ritual is between a brother and sister, however, girls also tie rakhis on male cousins or she chooses a ‘ rakhi brother’. There is a growing trend — that in families without male siblings, the celebration is between sisters to honor the same sentiment.
The White Mulberry honors this festival with an offering of gift boxes and baskets, and hopes to fulfill the needs of the ritual, with an assortment of extras that convey the thought and care of loved ones. Happy Rakhi.
